David Haase Alaska Libertarian Party

1. Should the government continue its hands-on effort to help troubled financial markets, such as the bailouts of major mortgage and finance companies?

This whole issue is a sham to create more debt and consolidate banks. Why should our government pay interest on money that is created from nothing by a private company? Thomas Jefferson warned us. Watch the videos at Davidforalaska.com and learn how we got into this mess and why. If you do not watch them you have virtually stuck your head in the sand and you will never understand!

2. Earmarks have helped support many Alaska projects, but have come under increasing criticism for contributing to federal spending. How do you feel about their use?

Blame the players not the game.

3. What role would you like to see the U.S. have in Iraq during the next few years?

Be good friends.

4. Do you support a continuation of the “Bush tax cuts” that were passed in 2003?

David will introduce legislation to stop our government from paying interest with your money and repeal the unconstitutional income tax. The individual income tax does nothing but pay interest to those that should not be getting it.

5. Do you support continued spending on the National Missile Defense system, which is based partly in Alaska? Why?

Yes, because there are potential enemies that could send missiles our way and if they do we need to shoot them down before they reach us.

6. Do you think national drug control policy is working, and should a similar approach be taken in the future?

No, despite all our efforts over the last century to stop drugs the actual percentage of people addicted to drugs has remained at 1.3 percent. Prohibition never works; it just spends money and makes the drug dealers rich. There is a very good video at Davidforalaska.com on this issue.

7. To what extent should Alaska Native tribal organizations be recognized as legal authorities in the management of fish and game, particularly federally managed species such as ocean fish, marine mammals and waterfowl?

They should be major advisers to Fish and Game and other state agencies just like the fishermen who actually catch the fish and all other Alaskans who work in the industry along with those of us who enjoy the fruits of their efforts.

8. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been heavily criticized for its response to Hurricanes Katrina and Ike. Do you think the agency should be restructured or have its role changed?

Yes, I think Alaskans should take care of Alaska and the Federal government should take a back seat, only be involved when asked. Why did they go door to door seizing people's guns in Louisiana? I have been told FEMA has 34 employees working out of the Federal Building in Anchorage and more in Fairbanks, why and what are they planning, is it "REX 84" (Google it to understand)?

9. Should Congress modify the federal contracting and privatization preferences currently held by Alaska Native corporations?

No, these corporations have the assets to back up bids that could cost more than anticipated and the capabilities of making the projects they bid on successful.

10. Do you favor privatization of any Social Security accounts?

Not in the current environment of the Federal Reserve Corporation. It sounds good, but the risks are just too high at this time. Social security was formed as a safety net not an investment plan.

11. Do you support a proposed land trade between the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge and Doyon Ltd.?

I think that developing our national resources and protecting the wildlife is a must and we can do both without harm to either. This issue is complicated and should be decided by the locals and I will support their decision. My inclination at this time is yes, but I would need more input before I could vote either way and input from the opposition would be necessary.

12. Should Congress do more to encourage doctors in Alaska to accept new senior patients on Medicare?

The solution is more doctors, not more regulation of the few doctors we have. This problem is not just in Alaska, but the entire nation is short of doctors especially rural areas. We need a mass infusion of doctors and doctors should be in charge of our health care not insurance companies and government bureaucrats. There are a lot of ways to get more doctors we need do them.

13. What, if anything, should the federal government do to protect Interior and Northwest Alaska salmon runs? Is it doing enough to reduce salmon bycatch in the Bering Sea Pollock fisheries?

The federal government should take a back seat to the state and the fishermen. Local is always better than the lower 48 do-good intentions.
